I think Blllie Jo's mother is an excellent person because the author describes her as a prodigy that she could play the piano well.

Mom:
I think she trys to help surve the problem in her own way. She suggest to have a pond but her husband didn't accept. She insist on keeping the two apple trees. Maybe she thinks that the apples can be their only hope when they don't have any food. And I think that she loves piano just as Billie does. As Billie says "i think she's just plain jealous when I'm at the piano and she's not'. Maybe she wants to play the piano but not facing the terrible weather and the economic problems. Or maybe she thinks that Billie is old enough to confront all the problems instead of addicting to the music. Mom wants a baby fervently. She even weeps when she heard about the Quintuplets. In short, I think mom is a strong, determined person.
Billie:
As the book said, Billie is just like a boy. I think that she has a great sense of justice, she despise the action of killing so much rabbits just for a competition. And I also think that she is talented mature, attentive. She plays the piano so well which seems to be her natural endowments. Since the book in written in Billie's point of view, she must has seen the event neatly and detailly.

The characters I chossed is "Arley Wander Dale". He is Billie Jo's music teacher. He took Billie Jo to play at the Palace Theater. I think he is poor, because he was belittled by Billie Jo's ma, she thought Arley was just a local song plugger. But he had to convinced her to let her daughter attended the perform. I think it will be suffering to talk to someone who look down upon you, but you can't retort. I guess if I was Arley, I would not want to talk with Billie Jo's ma. Although Arley did this is because except Billie Jo and Mad Dog, he didn't have other candidates. Therefore, I think Arlet had a pitful situation.

I would like to describe the character "Ma". Just like what Amy wrote, I also think that she is a very determined woman. She takes good care of her apple trees though they are suffering from the drought; she had been desperate of having a baby boy, though she had failed for 14 years, she never gives up on having one. Besides her determination, I think she is a very typical country woman. She handles almost everything in the house. She cooks, does chores, deals with the finance problems, and helps her husband on farming. She is a very strict mother too. She thinks that Billie Jo's education is more important than playing the piano, so she doesn't want Billie Jo to play in the Palace. This kind of thought is pretty similar to a lot of traditional mothers. They think that studying is the most important thing of all, other talents are not so important. Another special thing about her is that she doesn't reveal her emotions easily. When Billie Jo scored top in the eighth grade, she only said,"I knew you could." She is very proud of her daughter, but she didn't show it. Also, I think that Ma really likes to play piano, but she seldom plays it, maybe she thinks that it is inappropriate to play the piano while they are suffering. Anyway, I think Ma is a really special character in this book.

Dad. the one character that i won't be able to ever understand. in the first phase, Dad seemed like a respectable determined farmer whom wouldn't easily give up on what he just started. but through out the book, when Ma was burned bad for the kerosene he left on the counter, he didn't really share his part of sorrow and to me was eluding from his responsibilities.
then comes the part that really confuses me. to me, Billie Joe was saying that her fater put ma in a kind of protective sack, that seperates her from the dust! but on the day ma gives birth, Bayard escapes the scene and goes drinking in town! that doesn't make the least bits of sence to me. then he comes home, no arguments follow, everything just kept on going, as if the matter was
small. if forced to make a guess, i think dad is kind yet under preassure, responible yet timid and wants to show how sorry he is for ma and billy jo but doesn't dare or know how. just like most fathers.
The character that I choosed was Billie's dad. Alhough I don't really like the way he talked to Billie's mom(Afterall, she was pregnant!), I think he had his own insistence. When Billies mom asked to go out with him, he decided to leave them home from the dust, that was a thoughtful and considerate behave.
I think the arthor did a great job on molding such a character. A tough man that needed to take a great pressure and responsibility during that time, as a farmer, as a father.

I want to describe "Ma".Just like what Chelsea post, she is a determine woman. She never give up on having baby. 14 years, it's a long time, but she didn't give up.
I think she was a good mother. She thoughtful for her child and her family. She try to solve the problem they facing, I think she is a strong woman.

In my oppinions Billie Jo just a little boy. Her behave is as stubborn as a donkey. If she want do something very much, like play piano in the palace, she will annoy her mother when she is in the kitchen until she agree. Those actions just like me in my childhood. Sometimes I begged my mother or my father for some thing that I want to do or eat or play... until they agreed, or I would be really annoying all day.

I think Billie's mother is a hardy woman. She took all the house work, and even the life they had was very poor, she still tyied herd to male her family live better.I also think she is a little stubborn. She wouldn't easily changed her mind until you got something to convince her, just like when Billie toid her that she's gonna play the piano.
By Joyce
I think Blllie Jo's mother is a litttle stubborn, other than that, she is a good person that is very independent.

I think Billie Jo's mother is a great mother. She takes good care of her family and she cares about her family a lot. She's also a determined person that she never give up. She is an awesome character in this book.
"Ma"
I think she is a great mom that she can handle all of the chores in their home also she is a great piano player. But something confused me. Why doesn't she let Billie play piano? Is she really jealous about her daughter's talent in playing piano or there are some reasons that we don't know?
"daddy"
I think he is a person that I can learn, because he didn't give up when the dust demaged all of his crops and the rain washed away the wheat that they grow. What a great person!

Mom
She is a determind woman and I think this is really seldom in that time. She grow the apple tree and take care of it herself, and also she do the housework, she is the mainstay in Bllie's family. I admire this staunch women, because she is both a nice mother, and a hardy woman.
I would like to describe the character "Ma". because she took good care of her family, do the housework, never gives up on having one baby, she solve many problem in the family. She was a brave, strong woman.
