The second picture shows that the drought makes wheat doesn't have enought water to grow. and the ground breakes into many pieces.

The picture looked desolate. I think nothing can grew or lived there. This reminded me about the Great Depression. At the Great Depression people had a hard time in living, so did animals. People couldn't grew crop, so the animals didn't have anything to eat. It is similar to the book. The author also had a hard time in living.
Picture#2 is describing that there is a drought happening, animals are died, and nothing can be grown out of the dry land. This picture makes me think of p.39,which is about the wheat dying because of no rain and the dust storm.
Picture#3 is about the dust storm occuring, and everyone is trying to run away from it. This picture connected with p.21, p.31 and p.37. In the story, the dust storm affected Billie Jo's life a lot. The way they place their plates; the night that the dust storm occured and blowed everything away; students had to take tests while dust was disturbing their test. All of these made everyone wanted to leave the place. I feel very sorry for the people who had to suffer from this terrible disaster. Knowing that people had once lived such a poor life makes me feel grateful of having food to eat, water to drink, and clean air to breath in!

The pictures I want to write about are #2 and #4.
#2 shows a skull of an animal (probably a cow), lying on hard and cracked ground. When I see this picture, I think of the time of drought occurred in the Great Depression. This picture shows us that there is little rain, almost no water, and nothing can grow out of the environment. The skull to me indicates no life. The picture is a little similar with what is said in the book: drought, little rain, and people getting no food because plants and crops are not growing... everything is dried up, fried up, and just full of dust; simply hot. This picture makes me feel sad because it seems to me that the hardship is forever, no hope and rejected.
I had seen many times of the #4 picture "Migrant Mother". This is a picture of a 32-year-old woman who has many kids. when I see this picture, I always think of desperation. The mother looks desperate, hopeless, helpless, poor, and overwhelmed with worries. She looks like she's thinking of ways to help herself and the children. I think the mother's emotions and thinking is just like the people in the book (or even everyone in the Great Depression). People are worried about not getting much food, and farmers are worried about crops are not growing. I think this picture is worth to look and observe because there is a lot of people around the world whose feeling are jsut like the mother.

The third picture shows that there is dust drift in the air.

#2 The place is very dry and desolate. It look like there can't grow any crops, just like The Great Depression make America' economy worse. The bone of the bull seems the animal can not lives, either. there are no vitality in that time. Everyone had a hard life. In the picture, there are nothing to use, only have hopelessness.
Second picture show that there are not enough water for the plants and ground. In the picture, no grass can exist and the creatures are died, and that mention crops can't be grown so that people may died suffer from such natural disaster

Picture 1 and 2 shows that there were not enough water for poeple to use. At that situation, people could live hardly. It was like The Great Depresion and the book. People had a hard time living not only in the book but also in The Great Depression.

In ancient time, the road wasn't smooth, and it's hand to go across, especially in the place where has the bad climate. Like the western part of U.S.A. and the Colorado, the rainfall was so low that everything at there is dry, and bring a lot of dust, just like picture #3. The blizzard is huge, and turbid, that is, this place had been the changes of clamate, to undergo these places. In the story, the poem called "Not Too Much To Ask" said about the problem of harvesting, they can't harvest these crops successfully gor three years! That's the hard time for them, just because of the climate, that's so cruel for these farmers, the condition of that is picture #2.I thought that's the hard time for me, if I'm the farmer in that place. I think that this book is showing the hopeness in the dry place, and you can see the poem called "Debts" and "Breaking Drought." That's shows the struggle for these farmer.
Third picture , many dust are in the sky. Breathing thar durty air may cause not only humans but other animals sick.

From those few pictures, I can imagine that the era of people's lives at that time was probably not being very good. From the pictures I see so far, I found that most of the photos are related to the agricultural industry. The picture# 2 seems to be related to the drought. There must be no rain for a long time, because the lands crack seriously. And there was a corpse of an animal’s head on the dry lands. The picture # 4, the woman in the picture looked pensive mood, as if she had a great trouble. So I infer that people didn’t have a very good financial conditionat at that time. I guess this circumstances is pretty similar to the sitution in the books, because the economic situation at these two sides are both pretty bad. From those few photos, I was able to see that the socio-economic situation is not very satisfactory at that time.

#3 There are much dust in the air, it show that time the air pollution is serious. And it also let Billie Jo's life be terrible. The bust could make our health be bad and effect our life much. Peter

The land is dry and barren. There is a drought on the land and make animals die, crops can hardly grow.
In the book, the author is hard to live because of not raining. This made their land grow nothing.
LEON
Just some thoughts....
To me picture #2 seems like there is nop vital sign.
And #3... if I were there at that time, I would be scared yet knowing I couldn't get away with it (like mothly test, lol). And the pic shows all the feelings.
the pictures #1,2and 3 all have the same in common. they called it the "dust bowl".
picture one shows how the crops were devastated on farmers lands.
picture two shows the skull of a cattle, most died because of dust in their lungs.
picture three shows a dust storm smashing through the lands and fields.
Picture #1 shows a hut that’s surrounded by fields. The field is used to cover with crops and grasses, but the only thing I see is dust, nothing but dust and soil. The view gives a feeling of desolate. The picture shows the difficulty of the particular time, no rain and no water. People were in the crisis of no water and crops. The drought made people can hardly live. They had no water to drink, no water to grow, and no water to use. The picture represents the climate of the novel, dry and hard. I’m glad that I live in Taiwan. Taiwan doesn’t have serious drought. And the new technology can make rains if people need them.
#2
IN the picture, the land was dry and full of cracks, like what Leon said, it was a barren land. The skull of an animal emphasized the savageness of the land.
According to what the author wrote, there was a drought, and I bet the farm must looked like this at that time.

A woman sitting there, waiting forsome thing, feeling anxious and a little bit of worrisome. She makes me think of Billie's mom. A mother that needed to bear
hardships, take care of her own children and support her husband and family. The determination from her expression make everyone repect.

In this picture, it show that is dry, they may not rain for a long time. Land is broken, nothing grow, animal died. When i saw this picture, I thought the Great Depression. There didn't grew anything, no crops, no grass, but dust. It's must a hard time to live. Just like what author write "after a long time, a little rain came."

The woman looks hopeless, helpless, worry, but wait for something and thinking the way to solve the problem. I guess she was worry about the economic situation, because no rain cause nothing grew, and the Great Depression happen. Besides I thought she wait for raining, if there have rain, the land may grew crops. That could moderate their economic situation.
~by Cindy
#2 is about the place that there is so dry that animals, such as cows, died. This picture makes me think about p.23. I hope the plase will have a little rain to bring the people ther some hopes.

In the second picture, it's just a scene of hell, it's dry, full of dust, there's no living creatures , and plants, crops are hard to grow here. This pisture let us think about The Great Depression, it seems to symbolize how hopeless the people who live under The Great Depression is, that's really a hard-breaking time.
#4
The woman looks depressed and worring about many things. Maybe she's thinking how to earn money to raise her kids. This make me think of Billy Jo's mom, or people living under the great depression.
#2
This picture shows that during the drought, crops weren't harvest well, and the animals were surviving on this land difficulty. Luives can't survived when they are out of water.
#3
There are lots of dust in the air. If I am a person in that time, it might be lots of pollution effecting my health bad.
#4
It might be a woman during the Great Depression. She might be thinking about how to survive when facing the " money problem ".
Blossom
both 1.2.3 pictures show that it is very dry at that time.
#1
This picture shows that there was no water to grow crops. So I think in that time, there must be a lot of people that had no food to eat.
#2
We can see that the ground in this picture break into lots of pieces.
That means that this place is really really dry. It was very hard to find a drop of water in this place. Look at the bone on this crack ground! Don't you think that animal (maybe a cow...)died because of no water to drink?(I wish I won't have this problem...)
#3
Do you see all the sand flying around in the air? Wow~ It's so cool, but that makes bad health. If this place had a lot of water , it might be very muddy and the result wouldn't look like this. Maybe someone there will fall over because of the muddy ground if there had been much water. But I guess the truth of this picture is that the person in this picture was eating a lot of sand!
#4
Beside the woman, we can see some children around her. I think those were her kids. Also I think this woman looks a little worried. Maybe she was worring about how to get some water or how to get some food to feed all of them. Or maybe she was thinking that where they should live.

Those pictures are just like the setting of the story. In the place where full of dust and dry lands. Farmers who lived in that kind of place must have to worry about many things like if the water is enough for the plants or not, how the harvest is……etc. The farmers in Taiwan they worry the Typhoon will destroy their grains or crops and also the price in the marketplace. Different place of people worry about different things.
#2
The picture shows the bad environment there. The land was dry and the animals were hard to live.It also give me a feeling of despair, like there's nothing left and no any hope!
The forth picture was a women looked like she was very worried. Maybe she was sitting there, waiting, feeling nervous. Also, she looks helpness and hopeless as if she was worried about her and her family's next meal. People had a hard time during this situation.

A drought happens. There is no water and make the animals die.
It is very terrible. I hope it won't happen again.

In the second picture, I see a dinosaur fossil lying on the dry land, and the land breaks into many pieces. It also shows that there is not enough water to grow the crops, like wheat or the apple tree. It also shows that there might be very few people will live there. In p.23, we have read that after seventy days of wind and sun, a little rain came. I think it shows that there is the drought. I feel that the animals live there are like resolutes that overcome the things that is not possible.

#2 is showing that when the drought came, almost all the animals would died, except human being and noting could be grown because the earth was dry. It reminds me of p.26 and p.27,which shows that Billie's father was sure that rain would come; I think raims do not only means that they could finally grow things but also hope for them.
I think that picture #2 shows the time when the Great Depression came and the drought occurred, the lands were dry; nothing can be grown on the land and the animals were dying these situation symbolized hopeless and death. There are some similarities between this picture and the story: the drought and people having no food to eat.

In the third picture, we can see that there is dust drifting in the sky. It is large like a cloud. Page 46 of the book, we can understand that when the wind comes, bringing a red dust like prairie fire, hot and peppery, searing the inside of billie Jo's nose. The dust is everywhere that no one can get away from it. I think it just like a monster that covers the beautiful sky. I think it also means hopeless future because we can't see anything when it comes.

The second picture shows that there are nothing can grow up on the land, neither do animal. It just like the Great Depression, everyone was very poor and had nothing to do.
The ground was split open and there was a cow's bone in the second picture. It seems like having the dust storm, Billie Jo's life will be more rough than others, without water, without any possible hopes. The picture let me feel about the pain that the people who were lived at there. It seems like even an animal lived there will also died there. The painful is not we can realized.
