Before Billie Jo go on her journey, she was desperate to get out of the dust. She was kind of tired of the life in the dust, the silent between she and her father, and all the sad things. But during the journey, she realize that at Oklahoma she has a home, but if she get away of it, she's alone. So after the journey, she called her father "Daddy" the first time after her mom died. She told her dad everything, she told him that she can't get out of something that's inside her, that she's scared about the spots on his skin - which shows that she told him that she cares about him and she loves him.
During the journey, she realize that she has a home. This home needs her, she can't leave it. And she began to call her dad "Daddy" after the journey. It shows that she love her dad. And I think Billie Jo's journey is kind os risky. If I were her, I may be doing nothing. I think she has a special personality.
In the beginning of the book, Billie Jo didn't have much patience toward anything and everything, and she seemed to hope that everything would soon be over and things would be back in normal. But as she kept going on her "journey", she began to find out that growing up is actually not as easy as she thought; Billie Jo also experienced many tragedies throughout this period of time, and those tragedies were just like desperados, trying to deprive her conscience. Luckily, Billie Jo was strong enough to fight off those smashups and continue on her journey of a lifetime. She became more mature, and would start to think more like a grown-up. For example, she would described her feeling more clearly, and expressed the complicated relationship/feelings toward her father. After all, the journey has changed her from head-to-toe (I think), although the book didn't say it very straight('cause think, no one was actually going to be the same after the Great Depression, duh....)
The author did a great job at layering the first part of the book, when Billie Joe has still an immature heart, thinking all that matters are her piano finger works and even gives herself airs, having the thought that Ma was plain jealous of her talents. But throughout the events, mostly tragidies Billie J was able to realize that what really mattered in a dying world. Changing with her father, conquering savage persuits and learning lessons the long way, all which takes on a beautiful molt. Studying emotions, handling it the corrct way accepting mistakes and letting go of the past, it's like what I like about Balabin balaboom's poems "the monster continues to scrape you, the sun is rising you are at the top side."
I remember at the beginning of the book, Billie Jo and her father did not have a particularly close relationship, seems they relying on Billie Jo's mother in the maintenance, but at least Billie Jo and her father did not have a really poor parent-child relationship. But later, after the event of the accident, perhaps Billie Jo and her father are both self-blame, but because of their similar personalities, so they do not know how to speak to each other and solve each other's embarrassing. There’s a period of time after the case of accidents, I can see that Billie Jo and her father is not very harmonious coexistence. Billie Jo, on the one hand was self-blame of the accident; On the other hand, she complained at her father that he did not careful enough at taking care of her mother.
But after a series of twists and turns, there appeared a woman named Louise's, Billie Jo and her father have a favorable impression of her at the same time, Louise has also replaced the previous role of Billie Jo's mother to help Billie Jo and her father have a more harmonious parent-child relationship. And this is a perfect ending.
After the hard journey Billie Jo become more mature than before. During her journey she found that everything weren't as easy as she thing, at last she finally overcame the difficulties. Also the relationship between she and her dad changed back or even better after the journey.
Billie Jo was happy at the beginning of the story that she lived with her parents and had a warm and fragrant time. She lived happly in the dust land. She had never persecuted with everything around her. Unfortunately, her Ma died in the unexpected fire. This is Billie Jo had never thought about. But after the event, Billie Jo didn't cry. I think it shows her bravery. Because of this and other events, Billie Jo and her father became not so familiar. But after they run into the great dust storm, their relationship became closer. It shows that they care about each other and they couldn't live without each other. At the end, the author added a role named Louise that she rebuilt the relationship between Billie and her daddy. I think Billie Jo had grown up. She had met the worst things in the world. That is, Ma died. At the beginning, she just rely on her parents. But since her mom had died, she lost part of her relationship. So she became brave that she would not cry anymore. Her attitude is serious to every things. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Eric~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the begining of the book, Billie Jo was just an average girl in a average family that was suffering from the drought. As the story went on, she faced a lot of difficulties. First was the accident, which caused her mother to burnt up and her hands injured. Soon, her mother died when giving birth to her little brother Franklin. Franklin died after he was born. This accident changed the relationship between Billie Jo and her father. They were no longer like a family, there was a huge gap between them. The dust storm became worse, more and more people were suffering from dust pneumonia and lack of food and water. Then came the Black Sunday, which forced them to start over again. Billie Jo felt lonely and she was afraid of the dust, so she decided to get out of the dust. But, once she got out of the dust, she realized how important her family and her father was to her. She went home after a few days of traveling. When she saw her father, for the first time after the accident, she called him "Daddy". She expressed her feelings to her father, and gradually, the misunderstanding between them was gone. In the end, Billie Jo met Louise, she liked her very much, and hoped that she will become a part of the family. In the very end of the story, she started to play her beloved piano, and the drought finally ended. This whole year is like a "journey" to Billie Jo. She encountered many obstacles, but she tried to overcome every each of them. Throughout her journey, she changed. She became more mature, she cherished her family and what she had more. At first, she was desperate of getting out of the dust, but now, she wants to stay with her father and live in a "home". I believe that after what she had been through ,she will have the ability, determination and confidence to solve any problem that she meets in the future. Chelsea =)
She became a grown-up, she is more patient and more mature in the end of story, she met a lot of difficult but at last she overcome. It was because of the journey. As the experience of journey, she realize that there are too many thing that is not easy as she think, and that eventhrough her mom died, there is still a home in Oklahoma.
At the beginning of the story Billie Jo was a normal girl just like most of the other family living in a house with their parents. Although Billie Jo hardly have relationship with her father. As the story went on many situation and difficulties came along. First was the accident, Billie Jo’s mother was hurt seriously. Than her mother die while giving birth to her brother Franklin, and then Franklin die. After that Billie Jo and her father’s relationship had gone to the lowest point. The worst came the Black Sunday and the dust storm that made Billie Jo decided to get out of the dust. During the journey Billie Jo’s realized everything isn’t as easy as she thought and also realized the importance of her father and family. So after the journey Billie Jo became more mature and Grown-up and she finally started to call her father “ daddy” again. Tammy
In the past, she was desperate to get out of the dust. She was tired of the life in the dust, the bad of she and her father. But during the journey, she realize that at Oklahoma she has a home, but if she is not there, she's alone. So after the journey, she called her father "Daddy", and know what she really think in her heart.
I think after her journey, by leaps and bounds, Billy really grew up in her mind. Before the journey, she had an intact family and her life wasn't as bad as all that happened later, she was dependent, she thought that everything was deservedly and problems would be solved itself. In the journey, she could start to realize that everything wasn't as easy as she thought before, she learned to overcome things by herself and turned out to be mature in the end. After the journey, she got a complete family again, and she would know how to cherish it more in her later life.
There was a big change after the journey. Her mom died and all the tragedy seemed to occur to Billie, she felt painful to stay in that place, she got tired, didn't have patient to face all the difficuties. She decided to go on her "journey". Ofcouse it not easy to face all the things by herself. When she was in a well family, with her mom and dad, she was used to the feeling of care and warmness, especially the feeling of "home", so as she was on her journey, she realized that Oklhoma is actually her home, only in the dust bowl can she feel the warmness. She became more mature. I think the journey is good for a person, especially a child like Billie. You may think you live in a awfull sittuation, but as you jump out the bad mood and think deeply, you'll know that you're actually very blessed. A visible or a invisible live journey helps people become a grown-up.
In the beginning, Billie Jo think life is boring. She didn't like the life, her father and everything in her life. But after she faced a lot of difficulties, like her mother's dead. She learned that she had to overcome the tough time with her father, not herself. And she only had a home in Oklahoma, not California. She became to grow up and much independent.
